Zeitz, with its history dating back to the 9th century, is a city filled with half-timbered houses that echo tales of the past. The city is home to the majestic Schloss Moritzburg, a palace-turned-museum, and a Gothic cathedral, Dom St. Peter und Paul. Be sure to make a trip to these landmarks - they're nothing like the medieval castles in the UK. Pack a camera, the scenery is breath-taking!
Driving on the right side of the road may initially feel strange if you're used to UK roads, however, the adjustment is fairly swift. The speed limit in urban areas like Zeitz is typically 50km/h, but on autobahns, you can ramp it up to 130km/h!
The city offers both street and garage parking. Pay & Display parking (ticket machine) is common. Remember, keep the driver's side to the road kerb when parking, a rule fairly different from back home in Britain!
In the heart of Zeitz is the first museum of its kind in Germany - The Deutsches Kinderwagenmuseum. Exhibiting around 150 strollers made in Zeitz, it's definitely a unique visit that your UK friends will be intrigued to know about!
With a rental car, you can head to explore nearby cities. Leipzig is just an hour away, known for its vibrant arts scene and the impressive Monument to the Battle of the Nations. Alternatively, drive south to Jena, famous for its optical industry.
Before jetting off, it's good to know the local currency is the Euro. Weather-wise, summers are usually between 20°C-25°C, much like at home in Britain, and winters can drop below freezing, making for a superb Christmas market experience!
Enjoy Zeitz, happy motoring!
