Yangon International Airport (RGN), located in Mingaladon, 15 kilometres north of Yangon, is the primary international gateway into Myanmar. Serving as a hub to several airlines, the airport annually manages about 6 million passengers, making it the busiest airport in Myanmar.

Renting a Car at the Airport

Car rental facilities are conveniently placed inside the airport terminals. Several internationally recognized companies like Avis, Budget, and Hertz have their desks at the arrivals hall where you can pick up your pre-booked vehicle.

Tip: Plan ahead and book your car online before you land to ensure availability of your preferred car model and save on rental rates.

Car Classes: Picking the Right One

Myanmar drives on the right side of the road, a deviation from the left-side driving observed in the UK. You might prefer a compact or economy class car for a smoother transition into this driving style. Another point to consider is the somewhat uneven and unpaved roads outside city areas; a 4WD or SUV would be more suitable for these terrains.

Fuel Stations near Yangon Airport

There are a number of petrol stations situated on the main roads leading from the airport. Noteworthy among these are the 'PTT' and 'Shell' petrol stations.

Navigating and Accessibility

From Yangon International Airport, it takes less than an hour to reach central Yangon. Hotels and accommodations are easily accessible from the main highway running from the airport. Do remember to keep your GPS ready, as some of the local road signs might not be in English.

Climate and Currency

Yangon, being a tropical region, presents a warm and humid climate throughout the year. The local currency is Myanmar Kyat (MMK). Credit cards aren't widely accepted outside of big cities, so it's recommended to have some local currency at hand for your initial expenditure.

Exploring around Yangon

This vibrant city is packed with plenty of sightseeing destinations. From the sacred Shwedagon Pagoda to the bustling Bogyoke Market, Yangon has much to offer. Nearby cities such as Bago and Mandalay can be conveniently reached by car for some awe-inspiring day trips.

Drive safe, explore and create wonderful memories in Myanmar. Happy holiday!
