As Serbia's largest and busiest airport, Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade is often the starting point for many an exciting journey. Located approximately 18 kilometres west of the city centre, this airport serves in excess of 5 million passengers annually.
You'll find several car rental companies conveniently located in the arrival hall, making it easy to get on the road quickly upon arrival. Companies include renowned international brands like Avis, Budget, Hertz, and local Serbian companies as well. Remember to bring your driving licence and credit card when you rent a car.
The roads in Serbia may be slightly different from those in the UK. Drive on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left. English road signs are not the norm, with signposts typically in Serbian Cyrillic script. Hence, a GPS or map app can prove to be very helpful.
With long operating hours, numerous petrol stations located near the airport will take care of your fuel needs. The closest one is 'EKO Serbia', open 24/7, about a 7-minute drive from the airport.
Serbia uses the Serbian Dinar (RSD), not the Euro. While most places accept credit cards, having some local currency handy for smaller establishments or rural areas can be helpful. Exchange offices are located at the airport and across Belgrade.
Serbia's capital, Belgrade, is a city full of life and culture. Its bustling city centre, historical sites like Belgrade Fortress, vibrant nightlife, and Serbian cuisine will make you want to extend your vacation. Other cities like Novi Sad and Zemun are less than an hour's drive and make great day trips.
UK citizens don't need a visa for stays in Serbia up to 90 days. Belgrade's electrical plugs are Type F, the same as most European countries. Adapters may be needed. The climate varies from hot summers to cold winters, so plan accordingly.
We wish you a wonderful trip exploring Belgrade and Serbia!
