Wroclaw, although distinctively Polish, has remnants of British influence, owing to British artists and settlers over the centuries. Don't miss out on the Shakespearean references in the Wroclaw puppet theatre, visit a medieval exhibit at the National Museum which features British artefacts, or simply enjoy a British-style ale at one of Wroclaw’s many breweries.
Having your own set of wheels gives you the flexibility to navigate Wroclaw at your own pace. If you're planning a trip around the city's outskirts or surrounding towns, a compact car is well suited. However, if you're going to be sticking to the city centre, we recommend a smaller car to easily manoeuvre through the narrow roads.
Keep in mind, that unlike in the UK, Polish drivers drive on the right-hand side of the road. Also, the speed limit in Wroclaw is 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h outside of these areas. Don't forget, using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited unless you're using a hands-free system.
Wroclaw features a posy of landmarks, parks and architectural wonders that are worth visiting. Some of the must-sees include:
Most of Wroclaw city centre is subject to paid parking areas. Be sure to purchase a parking ticket from a machine and clearly display it on your dashboard. There are also several multistorey parking lots near the city centre – a convenient option, particularly on weekends.
Wroclaw has a mild climate, quite similar to that of the UK. It's recommended to check the weather and pack accordingly. The currency used in Poland is Polish Złoty (PLN). Larger businesses and chain stores do accept cards but it's advisable to carry some local currency for small establishments.
