The nearest airport to Valdivia is the Pichoy Airport, about 32km northeast of the city. Major cities like Santiago and Concepción offer flights to this airport. Alternatively, you can fly into Santiago and then drive or take a bus to Valdivia.
Driving is on the right-hand side, opposite to the UK. Speed limits are 50 km/h in urban areas, and 120 km/h on motorways. Always remember that seatbelts are mandatory for everyone in the car.
The city has several car rental agencies including international companies. You can rent a car directly from the airport or from rental offices in the city. As for parking, Valdivia has both parking meters and paid parking lots, usually charging hourly.
Valdivia's city centre is a historical treasure with attractive architecture. Isla Teja holds the Universidad Austral de Chile and a beautiful botanical garden. The district of Collico is known for its brewery and the Santuario del Rio river sanctuary.

Valdivia has a temperate oceanic climate. Summers (Dec to Feb) are warm and perfect for enjoying outdoor activities, while winters (Jun to Aug) are mild but quite rainy. Carry appropriate clothing!
The local currency is the Chilean Peso. Credit cards are widely accepted but it's recommended to keep some cash handy, as smaller outlets may not accept cards.
