Driving in Selangor
Basic Rules and Speed Limits
- Drive on the left side of the road, unlike the UK where driving is on the right.
- An international driving permit alongside your UK driver's license will be required.
- The general speed limit in towns is 50km/h, on country roads 90km/h, and on highways it's 110km/h.
- Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, and child safety seats for children under the age of four.
Car Class Recommendations
We recommend hiring a compact car if you plan to stay around Shah Alam or other urban areas. Traffic can be heavy, especially during rush hours, and parking spaces are usually small. If you're venturing off the beaten track, consider a 4WD or SUV for comfortable and easy manoeuvring.
