Terminal Features
The airport has two main terminals, both constructed with tropical architectural designs, and is equipped with modern facilities to accommodate tourists. You will find multiple duty-free shops, upscale boutiques, restaurants and food stands within the terminal premises. Don't be surprised if you walk past a couple of VIP lounges too. Remember, you're in the Caribbean's premium vacation hub!
Car Rental Services
Several international and local car rental companies have their desks at the airports. These include Europcar, Hertz and Sixt amongst others. Having a car at your disposal gives you the flexibility to travel at your own pace and explore far-flung beaches and attractions out of Punta Cana. Driving in the Dominican Republic
Road Rules
One thing to note is that driving is on the right-hand side of the road in Dominican Republic, unlike in the UK where driving is on the left. Also, at roundabouts, remember that vehicles already on the roundabout have the right of way. Beware of motorcycles and scooters who often disregard traffic rules.
Recommended Car Classes
If you are sticking to the city and tourist areas, a standard sedan will serve you just fine. However, if you plan to venture off the beaten track or into the mountains, a four-wheel drive car may be a better choice.

Based in the Caribbean, Punta Cana enjoys a tropical climate with temperatures that hardly ever dip below 25°C (77°F). Be sure to pack some sunscreen, hats and light clothes!
Currency
The local currency is the Dominican Peso (RD$), but US dollars are widely accepted in Punta Cana. Just keep in mind that you might not get a very good exchange rate if you opt to pay in US dollars instead of the local currency.

Tips for Departure
On your return journey, make sure to arrive at the airport at least three hours in advance for international flights. The airport can get crowded during peak hours, so it's better to be early to ensure a stress-free departure.
