Bear in mind that unlike the UK, traffic flows on the right-hand side in Germany. This adjustment can feel a bit strange, but you'll find yourself acclimatising quickly.
Germany has specific speed limits that differ quite considerably from the UK. Within city limits, the maximum speed limit is 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated. On most highways, the limit is 100 km/h, and on the autobahn, no general speed limit applies (recommended max. speed is 130 km/h).
Reaching Pirna is easy. It's a comfortable drive south from Dresden on the A4 and the A17. The journey offers an excuse to explore Dresden city before heading to the Saxon Switzerland. On the route, you might want to take a pit stop at Pillnitz and enjoy the beautiful Pillnitz Castle and its gardens.
Parking in and around Pirna is comfortable with a rented car. There are numerous parking garages, car parks and park & ride facilities in the centre and outskirts of the town. Do ensure that you follow the parking rules and signage.
The streets in Pirna and surrounding areas can accommodate any car from a small compact for the city centre to a more spacious SUV for those family day trips to the Saxon Switzerland.
Pirna's temperate climate is pleasant with warm summers and moderate winters. It's advisable to carry an umbrella due to occasional sudden showers.
