Upon arrival, you’ll find several car rental stations located at the airport. Companies like Europcar, Budget, Avis and Hertz operate desks at the arrivals area. Remember, you’ll need your UK driving license and credit card to rent a car. It's convenient and gives you the freedom to explore beautiful Fiji at your own pace.
Driving is on the left-hand side here, just like back home. However, be prepared for a mix of conditions - from well-paved roads to dirt tracks. Also, speed limits typically range from 20kmh in towns to 80kmh on open roads. Don’t forget, seat belts are a must!
Most petrol stations around the airport operate from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, with several open 24 hours. ATMs are accessible in the airport, but it's handy to carry some Fijian dollars for small purchases or emergencies.
From the airport, Denarau Island is about a 20-minute drive south and features luxury resorts and stunning beaches. Lautoka, known as "Sugar City" for its sugar cane production is approximately a 25-minute drive north.
In Fiji, it’s basically summer all year round. Pack light clothes and don't forget your swimsuit. However, the evenings can be cooler, an extra layer may be helpful. Sunscreen and insect repellent are also recommended.
The lively town of Nadi is close to the airport. Its multicultural essence is reflected in its variety of restaurants and shopping centres. Visit the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple or the Nadi market, which serves as a cultural melting pot and bursting with local produce.
The Fijian Dollar is the currency used here. Credit cards are widely accepted but having some cash on hand for small purchases or tips is a good idea.
So buckle up, plan your dream Fijian getaway and let the adventure begin!
