When choosing a car class for your Minsk adventure, consider the type of journey you want to make. For city exploration, a compact car is usually enough to swiftly navigate Minsk's vibrant streets. However, if you're planning on road tripping to Belarus' vast countryside, a larger vehicle like an SUV would be ideal.
The M1/E30 route, a part of the European route from Berlin to Moscow, provides a scenic drive from Minsk to Brest, a city filled with extraordinary history and allure right on the border with Poland. You can also take the M3 route towards Vitebsk, home to the annual Slavic Bazaar, a popular music festival.
If you're flying in, Minsk National Airport awaits just 42km away from the city. Alternatively, Minsk has two central railway stations - Minsk-Pasazyrski and Uschod, both serving major international train routes. For seafarers, the nearby river port on the Svislach River provides a unique entry into this charismatic city.
Belarus experiences a moderate continental climate, with warm summers (average 18-20°C) and fairly mild winters compared to other eastern European countries. Snow can be expected from November through March, making winter tyres a must if you're planning to drive during this season. The heaviest rainfall generally occurs in June and July.
Belarus uses the Belarusian ruble (BYN). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it can't hurt to keep some cash handy. English is not as prevalently spoken as Russian and Belarusian, but younger Belarusians and those in tourism sectors often do speak English.
