A gem located on the Pacific coast of the Shizuoka Prefecture, Makinohara is known for its tea cultivation and panoramic seaside views. Between the serene tea fields, the bustling city life, and the striking views of the Pacific Ocean, there's something for every explorer in Makinohara.
As Makinohara is not densely populated and has numerous narrow roads, you could benefit from hiring a small or medium-sized car. Remember, like in the UK, Japan drives on the left side of the road. Also, unlike the UK, road signs in Japan are usually in Japanese script and English alphabet for most of the part.
The city has adequate parking facilities. Many places offer free parking, while some may require a small fee. Make sure to park within the marked spaces and avoid any no-parking zones.
The nearest airport to Makinohara is the Shizuoka Airport, which has both domestic and international flights. You can also reach Makinohara by train, with the nearest major station being Kikugawa station.
While Japan's official language is Japanese, a fair number of residents and shopkeepers understand basic English. The official currency is the Yen (¥), not the Pound, and most places prefer cash payment over credit cards.
Enjoy temperate climate almost throughout the year, with temperatures ranging from 5°C in January to about 31°C in August. Pack accordingly!
Makinohara hosts an annual Tea Picking Festival in May. Here, you can participate in tea picking, traditional tea ceremonies, and enjoy local entertainment.
