One thing you'll notice is the excellent condition of the roads. Luxembourg takes pride in its well-maintained infrastructure, ensuring a smooth and pleasant drive. However, keep in mind the following rules and tips.
Speed Limits: In the city, the limit is usually 50 km/h. Out of town, you can speed up to 90 km/h and on motorways, the limit is 130 km/h, reduced to 110 km/h in rainy conditions.
Traffic Rules: Unlike in the UK, driving is on the right side of the road. Seat belts must be worn at all times and mobile phones can only be used with a hands-free system. Also, remember that Luxembourg has a zero tolerance policy towards drinking and driving.
Compact and economy cars are preferred due to the city's narrow and winding roads. But if you're planning to explore the country's rural areas, an SUV would make for a comfortable ride.
The city centre operates a pay-and-display parking system, and prices vary depending on the location. There are also free Park & Ride facilities on the outskirts of the city with regular bus services into the city centre.
Luxembourg's climate is a mix of Atlantic and Continental, resulting in moderate temperatures but heavy rainfall throughout the year. Be ready for unexpected showers!
Like most of Europe, Luxembourg uses the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but carrying some cash is a good idea for small purchases.
While the city is rich with attractions, don't hesitate to get out and explore the surrounding cities like Echternach, the oldest in Luxembourg, or the charming village of Vianden famed for its magnificent castle.
So pack your bags and let's hit the road. Luxembourg is waiting for you!
