Ljubljana is a compact and pedestrian-friendly city, but having a car can make your travels more comfortable and efficient. From compact cars for solo travellers to SUVs for family trips, you'll find a variety of car classes to suit your needs. Beware that driving is on the right-hand side in Slovenia, unlike in the UK where it's on the left. And the legal driving age is 18, unlike the 17 in the UK.
Parking in Ljubljana can be a bit tricky due to the traffic-free city centre. There are several public parking lots and garages available, and also Park-and-Ride facilities on the city outskirts. It's wise to respect the speed limit rules as there are many radar devices across the city. Remember, typical speed limits are 50 km/h in built up areas, 90 km/h outside built up areas, and 130 km/h on motorways.
Ljubljana's rich history, architecture, and green spaces make it a fascinating city to explore. The Ljubljana Castle, Central Market, and Tivoli Park are popular attractions. Make sure to take the scenic drive up to the castle and enjoy the panoramic views of the city. Don't miss out on a boat ride along the Ljubljanica River.
Ljubljana experiences a mix of a maritime and a continental climate. Summers can be warm and winters can be frosty. The best time to visit is late spring or early autumn where you can expect mild temperatures and less crowded tourist spots.
The currency in Slovenia is the Euro (€). Note that 1 British Pound (£) is approximately equal to 1.17 Euros (as of October 2021). Cash can be withdrawn from ATMs across the city and credit cards are widely accepted.
Ljubljana is renowned for its vibrant arts scene - don't miss out on the Summer Theatre Festival in June and July and the Winter City Fair in December. Do consider timing your visit with these events to experience local culture and traditions.
