If you plan to navigate the narrow winding roads of Lazio's villages or countryside, a compact car would be your best friend. But if you prefer the fast lanes of highways, then nothing beats the comfort of a luxury sedan.
The Via Appia Antica from Rome to the coastal city of Terracina, and the Via Cassia from Rome to the Medieval town of Viterbo, are two stunning scenic routes to drive through.
Just like in the UK, in Italy you drive on the right-hand side of the road. However, speed limits vary with 130 km/h on highways, 90 km/h on non-urban roads, and 50 km/h in urban areas. Another key difference is that seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, and the blood alcohol limit for drivers is 0.5mg/ml, less than the UK's 0.8mg/ml limit.
Rome is undoubtedly the epicentre of Lazio, but smaller towns like Tivoli, with its beautiful gardens and Renaissance palaces, or Ostia Antica, featuring ancient Roman ruins, are worth a visit too.
Head to Lake Bracciano for a swim and to enjoy watersports, or relax at some of Lazio's sandy beaches like Gaeta or Anzio.
Experience the lively Carnevale in February, or the romantic Infiorata flower festival in May. In summer, the region comes alive with outdoor concerts and food festivals, while Rome's 'Estate Romana' features open-air events throughout the city.
The currency here is the Euro (€). As for climate, Lazio experiences a Mediterranean weather, similar to southern parts of UK, but slightly hotter in summer, with temperatures averaging around 30°C in July and August.
We hope you're all geared up for your Lazio adventure now. Remember, exploring a new place is all about creating your unique experiences and memories. Happy travels!
