Located alongside the famous Colorado River, Lake Havasu City is home to the relocated London Bridge! Yes, you read it right - an authentic piece of British heritage right in the heart of Arizona. Originally built over the River Thames in the 1830s, the bridge was disassembled and moved to Lake Havasu City in the 1960s.
Lake Havasu City has a desert climate much different from the UK, with scorching summers and mild winters. To see the city at its best, we recommend visiting from October through April. The currency of course, is the US Dollar ($).
The best way to explore Lake Havasu City and its stunning surroundings is by hiring a car. Most UK drivers will find driving quite comfortable because just like in the UK, the driver's seat is on the left side of the car. The city itself is quite spread out, with attractions dotted all over the area, so you'll appreciate having a vehicle to get around.
Speed limits in Lake Havasu City are clearly marked and usually set at 70 mph on highways and 25 mph in residential areas. Remember, unlike in the UK, you should drive on the right-hand side of the road. At a four-way stop, the first to arrive has priority. Also, seat belts are mandatory for all passengers.
Parking in Lake Havasu City is a breeze with plenty of spaces available in the city, usually free of charge. Most tourist attractions also have their own parking lots.
Lake Havasu City is not just about the lake and the famed London Bridge. There are a host of other attractions to capture your interest:
We recommend you to rent a compact or mid-size car. They are economical and well-suited to the city's shopping areas and attractions. If you plan to explore the area's stunning off-road scenic trails, a 4x4 vehicle would be a great fit!
From its inviting climate to its breathtaking views and welcoming people, Lake Havasu City is a wonderful destination that truly has something for everyone. And the best part? You'll feel a touch of home while crossing the London Bridge, making your journey uniquely British in the heart of the US Southwest!
