Jerusalem has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters - a marked contrast to the British weather. Remember that in Israel, you drive on the right, unlike in the UK where we drive on the left. Also take note, the national speed limit is 90 km/hr on single carriageway roads and 110 km/hr on dual carriageways and motorways.
Start your journey at Ben Gurion Airport, where most international flights land. Opt for a compact class like a Kia Rio, it serves as a great option for navigating through the city.
Street parking can be scarce in Jerusalem, especially in the Old City and downtown areas. There are several parking lots and garages available including the Carta Parking lot located near Jaffa gate. Download the Pango app; it's widely used for street parking payment in Jerusalem.
Visit the Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage site, home to sites of key religious importance, including the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and Al-Aqsa Mosque. A short drive away lies the Yad Vashem, The World Holocaust Remembrance Center.
If you wish to venture further, Bethlehem and Dead Sea are just a short drive away. Take Route 1 east from Jerusalem to reach the Dead Sea or Route 60 south to reach Bethlehem.
Explore the different neighbourhoods in Jerusalem like Yemin Moshe, Nachlaot and the German Colony, each with its unique charm. Unfortunately, Jerusalem is landlocked, but Tel Aviv with its beautiful beaches is just an hour's drive away.
The city has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, quite different from the UK. Remember to pack light clothing for the summer and warm clothes if you're visiting in winter. Don't forget the sunscreen!
