Situated 4 miles to the south of the city centre, Ivano-Frankivsk International Airport is your stepping stone into this unique city. From here, you can kickstart your exploration by hopping into your pre-booked rental car, ready to hit the road.
Unlike in the UK where we navigate on the left side of the road, in Ukraine, you'll be driving on the right and the steering wheel is on the left-hand side of the car.
Driving in Ivano-Frankivsk is regulated by speed limits which are slightly different from the UK. The limits are 60 km/h (37 mph) in built-up areas, 90 km/h (56 mph) outside built-up areas, and 130 km/h (81 mph) on expressways. Remember that seat belts are compulsory and the use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited, unless you have a hands-free system.
For those who love history and architecture, dig into the city's past by visiting landmarks such as the Ivano-Frankivsk City Hall and the Armenian Church. The city's parks and open green spaces such as Shevchenko Park also offer tranquil retreats in between your excursions.
Perched to the south of the city lies the Carpathian Mountains, home to a variety of outdoor activities. From winter skiing to summer hiking, the options are endless. And the best part? The panoramic mountain views are just a drive away with your rental car.
In most of the city centre, parking is paid from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 8 pm. Outside these hours, and on weekends, parking is free. Be careful to observe any signs indicating changes to parking rules.
Make sure to taste the local Ukrainian cuisine. From savory "borscht" soup, stuffed dumplings called "varenyky", to sweet "syrniki" pancakes - you're in for a treat.
Your journey in Ivano-Frankivsk awaits. Up-to-date road information and the freedom of your own set of wheels will navigate you through an enjoyable and rich experience. Safe travels!
