Officially known as the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare's main airport is located 15km south of the city center. Its single terminal is modern and user-friendly, with a range of facilities including currency exchange services, a post office, duty-free shopping and restaurants. Don't forget, Zimbabwe uses its own currency, the Zimbabwean Dollar, although US dollars are also widely accepted.
Renting a car from Harare International Airport simplifies your travel and gives you the freedom to plan your own schedule. There are several international and local car rental agencies located at the airport, including Avis, Hertz, Europcar and many more. It's worth remembering that drive in Zimbabwe is on the left side of the road, just like back home in the UK.
The most convenient way to travel from the airport to central Harare is by car, giving you the independence to explore the city at your own pace. The journey will typically take around 20 minutes via the A5 highway. You will find petrol stations along the way for quick pit stops or fuel refills.
Zimbabwe boasts a mild climate, which makes it the perfect all-year-round holiday destination. However, if you're travelling in the summer between November and April, be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms. You might want to bring comfortable, light clothing; don't forget a folding umbrella or a light raincoat!
With a car at your disposal, you can explore some of the nearby destinations from Harare. The tranquil Lake Chivero Recreation Park, stunning Ewanrigg Botanical Gardens and the eccentrically designed Domboshava Rocks are all within a one-hour drive from the city.
We wish you a great journey and an unforgettable holiday in Zimbabwe!
