Situated just southwest of downtown Rochester, Greater Rochester International Airport (GROC) serves as a gateway to the scenic Finger Lakes region in Upstate New York. The airport is well-served by several major domestic airlines, providing direct flights to many important US airports.
Once you land, you will find several car rental agencies conveniently located on the lower level of the terminal. This includes reputable firms such as Enterprise, Budget, and Avis. They offer a wide range of vehicles to choose from, starting with budget-friendly compact cars for city explorers, to SUVs for those planning to explore the surrounding countryside.
There are plenty of petrol stations situated within a five-mile radius of the airport; this includes Sunoco, Fastrac, and Valero. Please note, unlike in the UK, petrol is sold by the gallon here, not by the litre. So, when budgeting for fuel, take this into account!
One slight variation to driving in the US is that they drive on the right-hand side. The main highways connecting the airport to the city are I-390 and I-490. Speed limits vary but typically are 70mph on highways and 30mph in residential areas.
Rochester, known as the 'Flower City', is famous for its parks, notably the stunning Highland Park. You can also drive to the beautiful Finger Lakes region, which is only a stone's throw away, and is teeming with vineyards, quaint villages, and gorgeous natural sights.
While the local currency is US dollars, credit and debit cards are widely accepted. The climate is a humid continental type, with cold winters and very warm summers. So, pack accordingly!
We hope this guide helps you plan an unforgettable journey. Here's to an adventure-filled visit to Greater Rochester!
