Renting a Car at Geneva International Airport
On The Swiss Side
Choose from some of the top car rental companies located at the airport. It’s open from early morning until late evening, ensuring flexibility for your travel plans. All car rental desks are located in the Arrivals Hall.
On The French Side
If you are planning to travel within France after landing at Geneva, consider picking up your rental car from the French side of the airport. This might be a cheaper option as Swiss motorway sticker ("vignette") is not mandatory in France.
On the Road: Driving Tips
Skiing or sight-seeing, Switzerland offers an array of destinations. But driving here can be different than in the UK. Here's what you need to know:
- Drive on the right: Remember to always keep on the right-hand side, unlike in the UK.
- Speed limits: The general speed limits in Switzerland are 50 km/h in urban areas, 80 km/h outside urban areas, and 120 km/h on motorways. Be mindful; fines can be hefty.
- Motorway Vignette: This sticker is mandatory for travelling on Swiss motorways. It's usually included with your rental car if you rent on the Swiss side.

Payments: Swiss Franc or Euro?
Switzerland is not part of the Eurozone and the official currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). However, Euros are often accepted in most places but the change is generally given in CHF and exchange rates in shops can be unfavourable. It is advisable to have Swiss Francs, especially for smaller purchases.
