Located just southwest of the city, Pristina International Airport named Adem Jashare is the main air gateway to Kosovo. Despite being significantly smaller than major British airports, it offers a warm welcome to its visitors. The airport has a clean and compact terminal loaded with essential facilities including duty-free shops, and a selection of eateries.
Upon arrival, you'll find the car rental desks at the Arrivals Hall. Several international car hire firms are represented here, such as Europcar and Sixt, so you're unlikely to be without choices. Vehicles driven in Kosovo are right-hand drive, similar to those in the UK, so there's one less thing to get used to. Choose from a wide range of cars available from small economy cars to comfortable SUVs, depending on your needs and budget.
Driving in Kosovo can present a different experience than in the UK. The city streets are relatively busy with a mix of cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. However, once outside of the city, roads are less congested, and the landscape is beautiful. Ensure you keep to the right when driving, unlike in the UK where driving is on the left.
You'll find ample fuel stations around the airport and along major routes. It would be wise to note that while diesel and petrol prices in Kosovo are cheaper than in the UK, it's still beneficial to ensure your fuel tank is full before setting off on a longer journey.
The official currency is the Euro. ATMs are widely available at the airport, in Pristina, and around the larger towns and cities. While most places accept credit and debit cards, cash is king in small-scale establishments.
Kosovo has a continental climate with cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers. The weather is generally a bit more extreme than in the UK, so pack accordingly. A good tip is to always carry a raincoat when exploring as rainfall can be unpredictable.
With your hired car, you are free to experience more of Kosovo's rich culture and history. Take a drive to the vibrant city of Prizren or the ancient city of Peja for an even deeper understanding of this intriguing country.
With your rental car all set, there's nothing stopping you from relishing in all the experiences Kosovo has to offer. Just remember, drive on the right, pack your raincoat, and bring your spirit of adventure.
