Situated just south of Flagstaff city, Flagstaff Pulliam Airport is a cosy yet modern airport, the perfect gateway to your holiday. Being the largest city in Northern Arizona, Flagstaff is a popular holiday destination, especially for those interested in sky-gazing, thanks to its popular Lowell Observatory.
At the airport, you'll find a couple of car hire companies ready to help you kick-start your holiday. Avis and Hertz are both based here, offering a range of vehicles to suit your needs. It's advised to book your car ahead of time to ensure availability.
There are several petrol stations within a five-mile radius of the airport. The closest one is a Speedway located just 4 miles away. Remember to refuel your rental car before returning it.
In the US, not just in Arizona, they drive on the right-hand side of the road, so that's something to keep in mind. Also, unlike UK highways, most US roads and motorways are toll-free.
Interstate 17 and Interstate 40 intersect in Flagstaff. These make for excellent routes to explore the wider Arizona state, including Phoenix, the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Plus, Route 66 also runs through Flagstaff, which is perfect for a classic American road trip experience.
Expect a varied temperature in Flagstaff. Known as a high-altitude desert, Flagstaff experiences all four seasons. Winters can be snowy while July and August bring monsoons, so be sure to equip your rental car with the right tires for the season.
The US Dollar (USD) is the currency in use here. Most shops, restaurants, and petrol stations accept debit and credit cards, but it's a good idea to take a bit of cash for smaller establishments or tips.
Flagstaff is a great starting point to visit nearby Sedona, famous for its striking red rock formations, and the iconic Grand Canyon. Both destinations are less than a two-hour drive away.
Happy travelling!
