The Eurico de Aguiar Salles Airport, also known as Vitória Airport, is considered the gateway to the beautiful coastal city of Vitória. While smaller than some of the country's other major airports, it still offers a range of services and facilities to ensure a comfortable arrival.
Several car rental companies operate within the airport, including some familiar international brands. Comparing prices and booking ahead is recommended to ensure the best deal and availability. Remember, cars in Brazil drive on the right-hand side, unlike in the UK, so adjust your driving habits accordingly.
The airport is conveniently located 10 kilometres from downtown Vitória, making it a quick and easy drive. Follow the signs for Vitória city centre and be mindful of local speed limits which are measured in kilometres per hour, not miles.
Espírito Santo's capital, Vitória, is known for its stunning beaches, historic architecture and vibrant culture. A hire car provides the freedom to explore at your own pace.
The city of Vitória is small and easily navigable by car. However, as with many Brazilian cities, traffic can be heavy and parking can be challenging, especially in busy areas. Allow plenty of time to reach your destinations and consider parking a bit further away and walking.
Fuel stations are plentiful in and around Vitória. However, unlike in the UK, many are full-service with attendants who will fill your car for you. Just roll down your window, state the type and amount of fuel you want (petrol is called 'gasolina' in Brazil), and the attendants will do the rest. Remember, you’ll be paying in Brazilian Real (BRL), so keep an eye on the exchange rate.
Like much of Brazil, Espírito Santo boasts a warm, tropical climate year-round. So remember to bring sun protection!
Visiting the neighbouring cities of Vila Velha and Serra also make great day trips from Vitória. Popular attractions include the Penha Convent, Morro do Moreno and Jacaraipe Beach.
Safe travels on your Brazilian adventure!
