However, be aware that distances and speed limits are given in kilometres per hour, not miles per hour as you might be accustomed to. The standard speed limits are 80 km/h on regional roads and 120 km/h on motorways. City speed limit is generally 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated.
If you're going to stick to city driving, a compact car is your best bet. It will be easier to handle and park in the city. For explorations beyond the city, consider an SUV to handle the country's rural roads comfortably.
Parking in Dublin city centre can be difficult during peak times, but several multi-storey car parks and street parking are available. Note that free parking in Dublin is scarce and most require payment from Monday to Saturday, with free parking on Sundays and bank holidays.
