Coatzacoalcos, also known as 'The Place Where Serpent Hides' in local Nahuatl language, is a coastal city with beautiful beaches and a warm tropical climate. With its rich cultural heritage, diverse neighbourhoods, and stunning natural landscapes, it's a place where tradition meets modernity at every corner. Enjoy your drive through the city and beyond!
A car provides you with the flexibility and freedom to explore the city and its surroundings. Go for an economy car for inner-city travels. For longer routes, like the scenic drive to nearby cities such as Minatitlán or Villahermosa, a SUV or a larger, comfortable car might be a better fit.
While some areas in Coatzacoalcos offer easy parking, parking spaces in the city centre can be a bit of a challenge. Plan head, aim for multi-storey car parks or secured lots. Unlike the UK, driving is on the right-hand side of the road, with speed limits generally between 30-70 km/h in urban areas.
Discover the city's beautiful beaches like Playa Sol and Chiapas, visit the cultural centre - Centro Cultural Coatzacoalcos, take a peaceful stroll though City Park or follow the river promenade. The pyramid-shaped Pirámide de Quetzalcóatl is a must-see!
Montezuma's revenge? No worries, we got you covered; tap water is not potable just like back home in the UK, stick with bottled water. The local currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Many places accept major credit cards, yet having cash on hand can still be handy, particularly in small local businesses.
Unlike the UK, Coatzacoalcos has a tropical climate. Average temperatures range from 20°C in winter to 30°C in the summer. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing and a hat for the sun, and don't forget your swimsuit!
As in any unfamiliar place, stick to well-travelled areas, especially at night, and keep your car doors locked while driving. Most importantly, enjoy your stay and have an adventure to remember amidst the wonders of Coatzacoalcos!
