With a rental car, you can explore Chisinau and its surrounding at your own pace. Start your journey from Chisinau International Airport, where you can pick-up your vehicle and kick off your adventure. One recommendation is to opt for a compact car as some roads might be narrow and congested, particularly in peak periods.
Parking in the city can be found at parking lots or in the street. Please note that in some areas blue-zone paid parking applies from Monday to Friday. Look for signs or ask locals for advice to avoid any unwanted fees.
Whilst driving in Chisinau, remember to drive on the right-hand side of the road, opposite to back in UK. Seat belts are a must and the use of mobile phones while driving is strictly prohibited. Keep within the speed limits: 50 km/hour in populated areas, 90 km/hour outside towns, and up to 110 km/hour on motorways.
You can start your journey in the heart of Chisinau by visiting its main square, Piata Marii Adunari Nationale, where you can find a stunning arcade full of shops and cafes. Nearby, you can see the beautiful Metropolitan Cathedral.
If you're interested in art, visit the Art Museum of Moldova and the Pushkin Museum. For nature lovers, take a trip to the Botanical Gardens or 'La Izvor' Park, the largest park in Moldova. Don't forget to try some Moldovan cuisine along the way!
The country is known for its wine production and you can visit some of the world's largest wine cellars like Milestii Mici and Cricova. With your rental car, you can easily reach these wineries for a day trip.
Use your rental car to explore further afield. To the North of Chisinau, visit the medieval fortress city of Soroca. To the South, discover the underground kingdom of the 'Gagauzia Autonomous Region' and its unique culture.
The climate of Chisinau is moderate continental. Winters are quite mild with sporadic snowfall while summers are warm and sunny. The best time to visit Chisinau is during spring (April-June) and autumn (September-November).
The national currency is the Moldovan Leu. You may not find many places that accept credit/debit cards in rural areas, so carrying some cash is recommended.
There's so much more to Chisinau waiting for you to discover. So book your rental car today, and enjoy the freedom and flexibility it provides!
