The Chinggis Khaan International Airport, located 18 kilometres from the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, is the largest and busiest airport in Mongolia. It has a single terminal that is divided into both domestic and international areas. Despite being a relatively small airport, it often sees a decent influx of international visitors.

What's Different in Mongolia?

Time zone

• When travelling from the UK to Mongolia, you'll be adjusting your watches forward. Mongolia observes Mongolian Standard Time which is GMT+8. In comparison, the UK is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in the winter months and British Summer Time (BST), which is GMT+1, from late March to late October.

Currency

• The currency of Mongolia is the Tögrög (MNT). While the British Pound (GBP) is strong against the Tögrög, do remember to change some cash before you leave to avoid any inconvenience upon arrival. Credit cards are accepted at major hotels and restaurants. However, cash is preferable in small establishments and rural areas.

In Mongolia, contrary to the UK, cars are driven on the right-hand side of the road. Roads can be bumpy and in rural areas, they might even be non-existent. Hence, GPS navigation can be unreliable at times. Also, keep in mind that the country has strict drunk-driving laws.
