Driving in Cascais is a pleasure as the roads are well-maintained and sign-posted. However, there are a few rules that you should bear in mind:
Known for its alluring beaches, Cascais won't disappoint sun-seekers. Some of the popular beaches include Praia da Rainha, a small but charming beach tucked away amongst the cliffs, and Praia de Tamariz, known for its vibrant summer nightlife. All of these are a short drive away in your rental car.
Don't limit yourself to just the beaches when there's so much more to see and do. Visit the Boca do Inferno, an impressive cliff formation that offers spectacular views. Explore the cultural scene at Museu Condes de Castro or go for a leisurely stroll through Parque Marechal Carmona. The possibilities are endless when you have a rental car to get around.
The primary gateway to Cascais is the Lisbon Portela Airport. Car hire services are available at the airport, making it easy for you to pick up your rental upon arrival. Navigating to Cascais from the airport is straightforward, with a travel time of about 30-40 minutes via the A5 highway.
The local currency is Euro (€), and it's recommended to have some cash handy for tolls, parking, and small purchases. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted across Cascais.
While Cascais is undisputedly a summertime favourite, the mild winter climate makes it an excellent year-round destination. Bear in mind that the area can be crowded during peak season (July and August), but shoulder seasons (May, June, September, and October) offer pleasant weather with fewer tourists.
With a rental car, you can easily venture beyond Cascais and discover the magnificence of Lisbon, the charm of Sintra, or the surfing paradise of Peniche. The beauty of having a car is that you're not limited to one location.
