Tip: Booking your car hire in advance online often gives you a greater choice of vehicles and better prices.
One thing you’ll notice straight away: driving in Morocco is a different experience than driving in the UK. Unlike the UK, where cars drive on the left-hand side of the road, in Morocco, you drive on the right-hand side. Your hired car will be suitably adapted, with the steering wheel on the left.
There are several petrol stations located within a 5km radius of the airport. They operate 24/7 and offer both diesel and petrol. You pay in Moroccan Dirhams (MAD), so it can be handy to have some local currency on you.
The airport is highly accessible, with excellent road links to other parts of Casablanca and Morocco. It's served by the A7 motorway, which takes you directly to other Moroccan cities like Marrakesh and Tangier.
The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham. Euros are often accepted in tourist areas but having some dedicated local currency on hand is advantageous.
Morocco enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild, wet winters. But remember to pack a coat if you are travelling in the cooler months of December through to February.
Once you're on the road, the historic city of Rabat is just a 1-hour drive from Casablanca. If you are planning to venture further afield, Marrakesh is a 2.5-hour journey from Casablanca.
