With the airport as your starting point, a rental car is the way to go to explore Brunei at your own pace. Here’s what you need to know:
For family visits, an SUV or a minivan is preferred for extra comfort and luggage space. For solo travellers or couples, an economy car is a cost-effective and convenient option.
No need to panic about running out of fuel! There are plenty of fuel stations near the airport and around the city. Most operate self-service, and fuel prices are relatively low. Be aware that payments are usually made by cash or local debit cards only.
Brunei has a well-developed road network. The Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway links the airport to the city centre of Bandar Seri Begawan, which is approximately 10 minutes' drive away. The highway also connects to the main tourist attractions around Brunei.
Brunei is known for its unspoilt nature, impressive mosques, and fascinating water villages. A trip to the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, is a must to visit the stunning Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Royal Regalia Museum. A drive to Ulu Temburong National Park holds the promise of adventure amidst pristine rainforest.
We hope you'll have an incredible time discovering Brunei and all of its cultural, natural, and architectural treasures. Safe travels!
