Located 7.5km southeast of the vibrant city of Brno, Brno-Tuřany Airport offers the perfect starting point for exploring both the city and the surrounding region. As the second busiest airport in the Czech Republic, it has good connections across Europe and beyond making it an accessible location for our fellow Brits.
There are several car hire companies operating from Brno-Tuřany Airport. You'll find stations for internationally recognised firms such as Europcar, Hertz, and Budget on-site. These providers offer a range of vehicles to suit all requirements, from compact city cars to spacious family SUVs.
Unlike in the UK, cars in the Czech Republic drive on the right-hand side of the road. This also means that the driver's seat and controls are situated on the left-hand side of the car. It may take a bit of getting used to, so remember to stay alert, especially at junctions and when overtaking.
Driver's must have their headlights on at all times. It's also worth noting that the use of mobile phones whilst driving is strictly prohibited unless you have a hands-free system. Also, don't forget your seatbelt - both front and rear seat occupants must wear them.
Once landed, the vibrant city of Brno is just a short drive away. It's a pretty straightforward route - just take road 425 followed by road 52 and you'll be in the centre of town in around 20 minutes.
Once settled in Brno, why not head out and explore the stunning South Moravian Region? It's particularly renowned for its wine production, with a plethora of vineyards dotted around the landscape. The UNESCO-protected Lednice-Valtice area, about an hour's drive from Brno, is a must-visit, and a great day trip.
The Czech Republic uses the Czech Koruna currency. Most businesses, including car hire companies, accept payment via credit or debit card. However, it's always handy to have a bit of cash on hand for smaller expenses, like parking meters or tip in restaurants.
The Czech Republic enjoys a moderate continental climate, with warm summers and chilly winters. Check the forecast before your trip and pack accordingly.
We hope this guide helps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip in and around the Czech Republic. From landing at Brno-Tuřany Airport to exploring the beautiful South Moravian region, there's so much for you to enjoy. Safe travels!
