Located on a small islet in French Polynesia, Bora Bora Airport (BOB) offers incredible first impressions of the island's natural beauty. Travelling to Bora Bora implies first landing at Faa'a International Airport in Tahiti, followed by a stunning 50-minute flight to Bora Bora.
Remember, British citizens do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. Once you land, you'll operate with the local currency - the CFP franc (XPF), but major credit cards are accepted widely.
Renting a car is a delightful way to explore Bora Bora. Though the island is small, a car allows you the freedom to see the island at your own pace. Avis and Europcar have stations directly at the airport, offering various car classes to suit your needs.
There is a Total gas station just about 4km from the airport, but be aware petrol costs are higher than in UK.
From the airport, you'll take a short boat ride across the lagoon to Vaitape, Bora Bora's main town. Hotels often provide boat transfers for their guests. If you have rented a car, it can be picked up in Vaitape.
With tropical weather year-round, Bora Bora is always a great destination. Temperature averages from 24 to 30 degrees Celsius. Packing light clothing and a rain jacket is advisable as occasional rainfall could occur.
Now that you have your rental car, it's time to explore! Driver’s side in French Polynesia is right, same as in UK, so you will feel right at home. Though speed limits are lower than in UK, Bora Bora's enchanting sceneries compensate for it. One day of driving around the island will give you breathtaking views of Mount Otemanu, beautiful beaches and unique local shops.
Beyond Bora Bora, consider a day trip to some other nearby islands like Tahaa and Raiatea. Regular ferry services are available from Bora Bora.
When it's time to say goodbye, return your rental car to the station at the airport. It's recommended to reach the airport 2 hours before your flight. Bon Voyage!
