Located in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy, Bergamo is a captivating city divided into two distinct parts - the medieval Città Alta (Upper City) and the more modern Città Bassa (Lower City). With its rich history, grand architecture, impressive city walls, and gastronomic delights, Bergamo is an unmissable destination.
Driving in Italy may be slightly different than what you're used to back home. Here, vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road, and overtaking is done on the left. Consider hiring a small car, as the city streets are narrow, and parking can be a challenge.
There are several parking areas in both the Città Alta and Città Bassa. Some are free while others require a parking fee. Pay close attention to the colours of the parking lines: white for free parking, blue for pay and display, and yellow for reserved parking.
The currency is the Euro (€). English is generally understood in tourist areas, but learning a few basic Italian phrases might come in handy. Tipping is not obligatory but is usually appreciated. Note that Italy's electrical outlets type is F and L, different from the UK's type G, so don't forget to pack an adapter!
Bergamo is a city that loves to celebrate. In February, enjoy the colourful spectacle of the Bergamo Carnival. During summer, experience the Gaetano Donizetti Musical Festival, an event honouring Bergamo's famous son and opera composer. These unique experiences are sure to make your trip unforgettable.
Your journey awaits. Uncover the magic of Bergamo with the freedom of your rental car, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
