The car rental counters are right in the arrival hall. Familiar global brands like Avis, Hertz, and Europcar maintain offices here. It's advisable to pre-book your car before arrival, especially during the summer months.

Driving in Norway

  • Speed Limits: In general, speed limits in Norway are lower than that of UK. Urban areas have a limit of 50km/h, while on rural roads it is 80km/h. On motorways, the maximum allowed speed is usually 110km/h.
  • Drive on the right: Unlike the UK, Norwegians drive on the right-hand side of the road.
  • Headlights and Seatbelts: It's mandatory in Norway to have your headlights on all the time, even during daylight. Seatbelts are also required for everyone in the vehicle.
  • Drinking and Driving: The accepted blood alcohol limit in Norway is much lower than the UK - just 0.02%. Always avoid alcohol if you plan to drive.

Routes & Sights

Andøya has some eye-catching landscapes and attractions. Don't miss out the Andøya National Tourist Route, which is a 58-kilometer drive along the west coast of the island and offers spectacular vistas. Spoil yourself with a pit stop at Måtinden peak or the Spaceport of Andøya Space Centre.

Currency & Accessibility

The local currency is Norwegian Krone (NOK), and cards are widely accepted. English is fluently spoken across Norway, so communication wouldn't be an issue.

Climate

Norway is colder than the UK, especially in winters. Dress in layers, pack some good winter gear if you're travelling between November and April.

Surrounding Cities

From Andøya, you can easily drive to cities like Sortland, Leknes, and even to Tromsø. A car provides flexibility to explore the scenic landscape of Northern Norway.

Now you're all set for your Norwegian adventure! We hope you have a memorable trip.
