Remember that Icelanders drive on the right - this may take a bit of adapting to for our British visitors. Not to worry though, the roads are well maintained and signage is clear. Given the breathtaking sights along your journey, we recommend hiring a reliable car so you can see everything at your own pace.

It's important to remember that petrol stations are not as plentiful in Iceland as they are in the UK. Make sure you fill up before heading out, preferably on your way out of Akureyri. There’s an N1 station less than a 5-minute drive from the airport, open from 08:00 to 22:00 daily.
The Icelandic currency is the króna (ISK). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, even for small purchases. Plenty of cash machines are available at the airport and in Akureyri. Don't forget to alert your bank to your travel plans to avoid any card issues while abroad.
