What is an additional driver?

In addition to the main driver, who usually also booked the rental car, one or more additional drivers are also allowed to drive the rental car. The option of an additional driver is a great option, especially for long journeys or longer tours with a rental car! So you can give the wheel and everybody has the opportunity to relax or just look out of the window and enjoy the scenery. 

What does "main driver" mean?

The main driver is always the one in whose name the rental car was booked. He collects the car on-site and also deposits the deposit with his credit card.

Even if you have booked online with another credit card, the credit card must still belong to the driver! Otherwise, the car will not be handed over to you. Before picking up the rental car, make sure that you have a valid credit card that runs in your name.

Simply set the filter "additional driver"

If you would like to book the additional driver directly with your online booking, simply select the filter "additional driver included" under the tab "Inclusive services". Now you will only be shown that car rental offers where the additional driver is already included in the booking price.

How can I register an additional driver?

The registration of the drivers is only possible when picking up the rented car on site. Main and additional drivers must be present in person. All drivers require a valid identification document and driver's license.

Please note that the regulations in the rental conditions also apply to the additional driver. If, for example, a rental car may not be driven until the age of 25, this age limit also applies to the additional driver.

What does an additional driver cost?

If the additional driver is not already included in the offer, he/she must be booked on-site at the rental car pickup. In some cases, this is done free of charge, but fees are usually incurred. Please refer to the rental conditions of the desired offer under the keyword "additional driver" for information on possible fees.

If the costs for the additional driver are not included, the local car rental company charges the fees either per day (from 6 Euro per day - maximum 90 Euro) or per rental. In both cases, you can have the additional driver entered in the rental agreement at a later date. The insurance cover should apply accordingly from the date of registration of the additional driver.

How many additional drivers can be registered?

Depending on the car rental you can add one or two additional drivers to your rental car booking. The additional drivers are obliged to comply with the same terms and conditions as the main driver and are insured under the same rental agreement.

Do the additional drivers have to be registered separately?

Yes, please always register the additional driver. If an unannounced driver causes an accident or damage, the insurance company rejects the claim and you have to pay the costs yourself. In order for you to be able to take turns driving and have insurance cover for all drivers, you must register an additional driver for your rental car.
