Faa'a International Airport, located on the island of Tahiti, is the largest international airport in French Polynesia. Serving more than a million passengers each year, it acts as a hub connecting the Pacific islands with the rest of the world.
In contrast to the UK, traffic in French Polynesia drives on the right-hand side of the road. Speed limits are generally lower than those in the UK, with a maximum speed limit of 80km/h (roughly 50 mph).
The local currency is the CFP franc (XPF). Although expenses for dining and activities can be slightly higher here than in the UK, fuel prices are relatively comparable.
There are several multinational car rental companies stationed at the airport. Conveniently, they offer a range of car categories from compact cars for city tours to SUVs, suitable for the rugged island terrains.
You'll find a number of petrol stations near the airport and throughout the island. It's wise to fill up your tank before exploring as petrol stations can be few and far between in the more remote areas of the islands.
Apart from the main island of Tahiti, Faa'a International Airport provides easy connectivity to several smaller islands such as Moorea and Bora Bora. You can take short domestic flights or ferries to these islands.
French Polynesia enjoys a pleasant tropical climate with a relatively constant temperature around 27°C (80°F) throughout the year. So, it will be a nice break from the typical British weather!
Once you've driven away from the airport, the island's capital of Papeete is not far. You'll find a bustling market, beautiful gardens, and a vibrant nightlife. Drive further and you'll reach beautiful black sand beaches, waterfalls, and stunning lookouts.
Get ready for an amazing adventure, and enjoy your trip to French Polynesia!
